  14. <p>     DIED. William Shea, 84, politically savvy New York City
  15. attorney who helped bring National League baseball back to the
  16. city in 1962 and was honored by having the Mets' stadium named
  17. for him; in New York City. When the New York Giants and the
  18. Brooklyn Dodgers departed for California in 1957, Shea called
  19. it the "most flagrant violation of loyalty to one's fans I've
  20. ever seen." Mayor Robert Wagner appointed Shea head of a
  21. committee to lure a National League franchise to New York. By
  22. helping to create the Continental League, Shea frightened the
  23. barons of major-league baseball into agreeing to expand the
  24. National League to include a New York team in 1962, which was
  25. christened the Mets.
